Our Apparatus

The Equipment Behind Our Emergency Response

At the Saint David Fire District, our emergency vehicles are more than just fire trucks. Each apparatus serves an important purpose in helping our volunteer firefighters respond to emergencies and protect the residents of Saint David and the surrounding community.

From structure fires and medical emergencies to wildland fires and vehicle accidents, our fleet provides the equipment and resources needed to respond to a wide variety of incidents.

Explore our apparatus below to learn more about the vehicles and equipment our firefighters use to serve our community.

Engine 281

Structural Firefighting & Emergency Response

Engine 281 is one of the District’s primary firefighting apparatus. Fire engines are equipped to provide an initial response to structure fires and other emergencies requiring firefighting equipment.

Fire engines carry essential tools such as fire hoses, ladders, breathing apparatus, firefighting tools, and equipment used to protect both firefighters and the public.

Rescue 281

Emergency Medical Services & Rescue Operations

Rescue 281 supports the District’s response to medical emergencies and rescue incidents.

Equipped with emergency medical supplies and rescue equipment, this vehicle allows District personnel to provide initial patient care, assist with stabilization, and support other responding emergency services.

Medical emergencies account for an important portion of the services provided by our volunteer responders, making rescue apparatus an essential part of our operations.

Tender 281

Water Supply & Fireground Support

In rural communities like Saint David, fire hydrants are not always available near an emergency. Water tenders provide an important resource by transporting large quantities of water to incidents where an established water supply may be limited or unavailable.

During firefighting operations, water tenders can support fire engines by providing additional water and assisting with sustained fire suppression efforts.

These vehicles also play an important role in mutual aid operations, supporting neighboring fire departments during larger incidents.

Vehicle Information

  • Apparatus: Tender 281
  • Primary Role: Mobile water supply
  • Year / Make / Model: [To be added]
  • Water Capacity: 3500 Gallons
  • Pump Capacity: 500 GPM

Brush 281

Wildland Firefighting & Brush Fire Response

Brush 281 is a Ford F-450 Type 6 wildland fire engine designed to respond to brush fires, vegetation fires, and other emergencies in areas where larger fire apparatus may have limited access.

Southern Arizona’s dry climate, desert vegetation, and rugged terrain create unique challenges during wildland fire incidents. Brush 281’s smaller size and maneuverability allow firefighters to navigate narrow roads, unimproved surfaces, and remote areas while carrying essential firefighting equipment.

Equipped with a 300-gallon water tank, pump, fire hoses, and wildland firefighting tools, Brush 281 provides firefighters with the ability to quickly attack vegetation fires, help prevent fire spread, and protect nearby homes and structures.

Brush 281 also supports mutual aid responses and may be deployed to assist neighboring fire departments during larger wildland fire incidents.

Vehicle Information

  • Apparatus: Brush 281
  • Classification: Type 6 Wildland Fire Engine
  • Chassis: Ford F-450
  • Primary Role: Wildland Firefighting & Brush Fire Response
  • Water Capacity: 300 Gallons
  • Pump Capacity: [To be added]
  • Year: 2001

Engine 2812

Type 3 Wildland Fire Engine | Wildland Firefighting & Fire Suppression

Engine 2812 is a 1996 Type 3 wildland fire engine operated by the Saint David Fire District. Designed for wildland firefighting operations, this apparatus combines powerful firefighting capabilities with the mobility needed to operate on rural roads, unimproved surfaces, and challenging terrain.

Southern Arizona’s dry climate, desert vegetation, and rugged landscape present unique challenges during wildland fire incidents. Engine 2812 provides firefighters with the water supply, pumping capabilities, and specialized equipment necessary to respond to brush fires, grass fires, and larger wildland incidents.

Equipped with a 500-gallon-per-minute (GPM) fire pump, Engine 2812 supports both initial fire attack and extended firefighting operations. Its capabilities allow firefighters to deploy hose lines, suppress advancing flames, protect threatened structures, and assist with fire containment in areas where traditional structural fire engines may have limited access.

In addition to serving the Saint David community, Engine 2812 can support regional firefighting operations through mutual aid, assisting neighboring agencies with wildland fire suppression and structure protection.

Vehicle Information

  • Apparatus: Engine 2812
  • Classification: Type 3 Wildland Fire Engine
  • Year: 1996
  • Make / Model: [To be added]
  • Primary Role: Wildland Firefighting & Structure Protection

Command & Support Vehicles

Chief 28

Command Vehicle | Incident Management & Emergency Medical Response

Chief 28 is a 2014 Ford Explorer that serves as the primary command vehicle for the Saint David Fire District. This versatile vehicle allows the Fire Chief to respond quickly to emergencies, coordinate incident operations, and provide leadership and support to responding personnel.

During emergency incidents, Chief 28 serves as a mobile command resource, allowing the Fire Chief to assess conditions, establish incident command, coordinate incoming apparatus, and communicate with other emergency response agencies. The vehicle supports effective incident management during structure fires, wildland fires, motor vehicle accidents, and other emergencies.

In addition to its command responsibilities, Chief 28 carries emergency medical equipment, allowing the Fire Chief to respond directly to medical emergencies and begin providing patient care when needed. This capability is particularly valuable in a rural community where volunteer responders may arrive from different locations and response times can vary.

Chief 28 also supports daily District operations, inspections, administrative responsibilities, and coordination with neighboring emergency service agencies.

Vehicle Information

  • Apparatus: Chief 28
  • Year: 2014
  • Make / Model: Ford Explorer
  • Classification: Command & Emergency Response Vehicle
  • Primary Role: Incident Command & Emergency Scene Management
  • Additional Capabilities: Emergency Medical Response, Personnel Support & District Operations

Rescue 2811

Personnel Transport & Operational Support

Rescue 2811 is a 2006 Ford F-350 that serves as a multipurpose support vehicle for the Saint David Fire District. Unlike the District’s primary firefighting and rescue apparatus, R2811 focuses on transporting personnel, delivering additional equipment, and supporting emergency operations.

During emergency incidents, R2811 allows additional firefighters and support personnel to respond to the scene while transporting tools, supplies, and other resources needed for extended operations. Its versatility makes it a valuable asset during larger incidents requiring additional personnel or logistical support.

Beyond emergency response, R2811 plays an important role in the District’s community outreach and training activities. The vehicle is frequently used for public relations events outside the District’s service area, allowing firefighters to represent Saint David Fire District at community gatherings, educational events, and regional activities.

R2811 also provides transportation for District members attending training courses, conferences, and other professional development opportunities outside the local area. By supporting these activities, the vehicle helps our volunteers expand their knowledge and skills while keeping primary emergency response apparatus available within the District.

Vehicle Information

  • Apparatus: Rescue 2811
  • Year: 2006
  • Make / Model: Ford F-350
  • Classification: Support & Personnel Transport Vehicle
  • Primary Role: Personnel Transportation, Equipment Support & Logistics
  • Additional Uses: Community Outreach, Public Relations Events & Out-of-Area Training Transportation
